WOODSTOCK - Emma E. Ackman, 89, of Woodstock, formerly of Marengo, Huntley and Friendship, WI, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at her home after a short battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Riley Township, to Monroe and Inez (Funderburk) Smith Sr. She married Leonard G. Ackman on Oct. 23, 1937, in DuBuque, IA.
She and her husband resided in Marengo before moving to Huntley in 1949, where they operated Len and Em's Tap and Grill for many years. They retired to Friendship, WI, and returned to Woodstock in 1998.
She had been a former election judge for more that 20 years in Grafton Township and was a charter member of the Harvard Moose.
Survivors include a son, Leonard G. (Penny) Ackman Jr. of Elk Grove Village, their children, Scott (Shaun) Ackman of Chicago, Blair (Angela) Ackman of Livonia, MI, and Eric Ackman of Chicago; their grandchildren, Avery, Quinn, Shea, Paige, Carter and Bennett; a daugher, Kay (Warren) Wascher of Woodstock, their children Daniel Newman and Jason Newman, both of Woodstock, David (Jessica) Wascher of Marengo; their grandchildren, Connor and Nicklaus Wascher; a sister, Ila Mae Carroll of Genoa; a brother, Monroe (Joyce) Smith Jr. of Union; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend and caregiver, Paula Bernabe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, on April 11, 2001.
The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at noon Saturday, April 14, at James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley, with the Rev. Daniel Diss, pastor of the Genoa United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Genoa Cemetery.
