It appears that Edwin was raised by his grandmother Mary Gilbert. In the Wapello County, Iowa, Census for 1910, Edward, age 4, was living in his grandmother Mary Gilbert's house in Ottumwa. In the 1920 census for Scott County, Iowa, Mary and Edward were both living in the home of Jess J. and Lucile Fox in Rockingham. Lucile was also Mary's daughter.

I checked Edwin's death record at the Wapello County Court House, and it stated he was buried in Elm Lawn, Elmhurst, Illinois.
