"[A virtuous woman's] hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber. She quilts her own bedspreads." (Proverbs 31:19 & 22 NLT) Gloria Hughes was an accomplished seamstress and crotcheter who believed when life gives you scraps…make a quilt! She spread physical and metaphorical warmth when she gave away her quilts and blankets.

A faithful servant, Gloria joined her Heavenly Father Sunday evening February 9, 2014 in her Mansfield home surrounded by family and friends following a courageous 4 year battle with cancer; it was the day after she celebrated her 80th birthday with family.

Gloria Jane Sellers was born February 8, 1934 in Mansfield to parents Harry & Vada (Hanna) Sellers. She was graduated from San Diego High School with the class of 1952 where she was active in the a cappella group and went on to attend a year of junior college. Her most recent employment was with San Diego Hospital Association where she worked as an Executive Secretary to the VP of Finance for 12 years. Following her retirement in 1997 she returned to the Mansfield area to be near family.

In free time she thoroughly enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cross-stitching, gardening, and solving crossword puzzles. She dearly loved her two dogs Teddy & Haley.

Gloria was a regular attendee of Berean Baptist Church where she was a very active participant in programs that included: MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), prayer chain, quilting club and formerly a choir member.

She is survived by her daughter Carrie Hughes of Mansfield; her sister Elaine (Poole) Robinson of Mansfield; a special nephew David & Deb Poole of Mansfield; a special niece Ellen & Terry Eichar of Bellville; and numerous additional nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Leonard and Blaine Sellers.

Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a celebration of her life will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday. Pastors Dave Pound and John Stocks will officiate the service.

Contributions in her memory to Berean Baptist Church or Golden Treasures Golden Retriever Rescue may be made at the funeral home.
