Mildred was born on 11 August 1908 in Albany, New York as the youngest of ten children of Joseph Albert, Jr. and Eva Wink. She moved with her family to Washington, D.C. in 1910. She first married Vincent Buettner on 3 September 1925 in DC. Their first child died as an infant due to complications from measles. They had one surviving child before divorcing on 19 November 1934. She married Lucien Dupris whom she would call the love of her life on 18 March 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. They had three children together before his untimely death from a heart attack compounded by arteriosclerosis. She had a child out of wedlock whose father also met an untimely death. She married again on 13 May 1944 to Andrew Herhei in Fairfax County, Virginia. Two children came of this marriage before divorcing on 11 September 1956. Her last marriage came to Edward Koselke on 21 September 1960 in Fairfax County. This marriage produced no children but lasted until his death.

Throughout her life she lived in Albany; DC; Quantico, Virginia; and Fort Belvoir, Virginia but spent most of her life in Alexandria, Virginia. She worked her whole life as a telephone operator for the US Army where she thoroughly enjoyed her job and lasted longer than most of her superiors. She passed away on 27 December 1993 due to sepsis and infected decubitus ulcers. At the time of her passing she had 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
