Shirley J. House, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at SMMC at the age of 82. Shirley was born the daughter of George H. and Essie R. (Melte) Cummings on October 24, 1931 in Kansas City, MO. Shirley was active throughout her life whether spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. She was a member of the American Legion, 40-8 VFW, Rosedale 1100 Eagles and the Union Pacific Old Timers Auxiliary. Survivors include her daughter; Phyllis E. Fisette, sons; Harold M. House and James J. House all of Kansas City, KS; brothers, George and Thomas Cummings; sisters, Betty Hotzler and Joanne Goodwin as well as 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. House; parents; 1 brother; 2 sisters and son-in-law, Bo Fisette. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 6-8:00 PM at Maple Hill Funeral Home, KCK. A funeral service will be Friday, February 14 at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3232 Metropolitan Ave, KCK 66106. Burial will follow at 12:30 PM at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Shirley being a breast cancer survivor, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her loving memory to the Breast Cancer Society, MS Foundation or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
