Kellie K. "Pop" Kirkland, age 84, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Kirkland was born in Swain County on January 8, 1930 and was a son of the late Oscar Kirkland and Eva Woody Kirkland. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather who provided well for his family. A man of many interests, he particularly enjoyed gardening and fishing. In addition to beekeeping, he also loved his birds and made bird houses for Martins. Preceding Mr. Kirkland in death were his wife of 65 years, Ethelene Merrill Kirkland and a brother, Rex Kirkland.
Saddened by the loss of Mr. Kirkland are four children, Kathy Willis, Kenny Kirkland, Danny Kirkland and Ricky Kirkland and his wife Tammy; two brothers, Albert and Dennis Kirkland; two sisters, Roxie Gunter and Ruby Welch; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Travis, Kendra, Kevin and Kayla; and four great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Nealsville Church of God with Rev. Doug Carpenter officiating.
