Mary Evans Ferguson Trent, 95, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at The Southerland in Midlothian. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Conner Alvin Ferguson and the late John Claude Trent. Born October 13, 1918, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Garland Edward Evans Sr. and the late Catherine Elliott Evans and was also preceded in death by nine brothers, Lynwood Evans, William E. "Bud" Evans, Wesley "W.T." Evans, Garland E. Evans Jr., Calvin Y. Evans, Atron D. Evans, Clark T. Evans Sr., Carroll S. Evans and Wayne L. Evans. Mary retired from Craddock & Terry Shoe Corp. and was a former employee of the Lynchburg Hosiery Mill. For many years, she served lunches at William Marvin Bass Elementary School. Mary was a volunteer at Lynchburg General Hospital for thirty years and was a longtime member Fairview Christian Church. Mary is survived by her son, Dale Ferguson and wife, Gwen of Powhatan, Va.; two brothers, Aubrey L. Evans and Kenneth N. Evans, both of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Amber Taylor and husband, Scott, of Richmond, and Benjamin Ferguson of Orlando, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Coleman, Jacob, Ava, Brian, and Logan and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Curtis Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday, at the funeral home, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Assoc. or the National Kidney Foundation.
