David Isenhour HICKORY Mr. David Ray Isenhour peacefully transitioned to his new home surrounded by family members at Catawba Regional Hospice on Robinson Rd., Wednesday, July 3, 2013. His wife, Betty Jo Wright Isenhour, of 59 years preceded him. The son of the late Guylo Reid and Dora Bell Whitener Isenhour, David was born in Catawba County, June 3, 1932. Two sisters, Mrs. Lillian I. Holsclaw and Mrs. Mae I. Gulledge; and eight brothers, Walt Bollinger, Frankie, Lee, Elby, Fred, Edwin (Buddy), Guylo (Junior), and Boyd Isenhour, also predeceased him. David served in Battery "D" 505th at Fort Tilden, N.Y., in the U.S. Army. He worked at AD Julliard & Co., Deal's Furniture, Pet Dairy, and retired from Hickory Fire Department as well as serving as a volunteer fireman at the Mountain View Fire Department. An avid fisherman, his fish fry's, after successful fishing trips for family and friends gave him great pleasure. David spent many happy hours in his workshop working with wood to produce special gifts for his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 6, at 2 p.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church, 6156 Mountain Grove Rd., Hickory, with the Rev. Olin B. Isenhour, Dr. Stephen Loftis and Rev. Kenneth Bryant officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. David Isenhour was a faithful member and deacon of Mountain Grove Baptist Church for many years and he was particularly supportive of the youth program. Therefore, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Grove Baptist Church Youth Program, 6156 Mountain Grove Rd., Hickory, NC 28602 or Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
