Lizzie, named in honor of her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Romers, was the 2nd of four children born to Jacob Van Dyke Jr and Patje Kelderman. Her siblings: Anna, William and Wilhelmina. Her father died when she was only 10. Her mother remarried giving her three half-siblings: Alice, Gertrude and John.
On 6 Aug 1920 in Pella, Lizzie married Louis Schuring, son of Nicholas Klaas and Jane (Vander Post) Schuring. They had two children, Jennie born in 1921 and Jacob Louis, born in 1924. It was a difficult birth and Lizzie died a week after giving birth. Little Jacob survived.
