Harry James Lehr Sr. was born to Andrew Birkett Lehr and Maude Mary Fitzgerald on January 5, 1894. He grew up in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and graduated Dental school in 1918, at the University of Maryland Dental School and then was Dr. Lehr. Dr. Lehr was also the poet Laureate of the Class of 1918. He married Bessie Quay Walter August of 1925 in Baltimore Maryland. They had two children, Helen Maude Lehr and Harry James Lehr Jr. Per J. Lehr.
