David was born in Dallas, Texas, to the late George and Louise Madden, and grew up in Groesbeck. He graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1960, and was also a college graduate. David lived most of his adult life in San Antonio, with a few years lived in Harlingen, and then the last 15 years, he had lived in Bastrop. David had recently retired as a self-employed entrepenaur. During his career, he had been involved in a variety of enterprises, including Woolco store management, vending machines, arcade games, and he established the first independent pay-phone company (TAMCO) outside of Southwest Bell. He was involved also in mobile home sales, and was proud of his association with a pain management clinic where he was able to help many people with pain relief. David loved to sing and dance, play golf, fish, tell jokes, and live life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ama Sue Madden; and his mother, Louise Carter Madden.
He is survived by his daughters and their families: Melanie and Michael Fording, of Mercedes, Melissa Madden, of San Antonio, Lenore and Jay Gregson, of San Antonio, and Mindy and Lee Starr, of San Antonio; stepsons, Christopher Murphy, Michael Murphy, and Ryan Murphy; grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Tara, Taylor, Devin and Destiny Fording, Jordan and Becca Gregson, Emily, Mahli, Judah, and Claire Starr, Parker and Presley Murphy; sister, Sara Thompson and husband, Robert Brehm, of San Antonio; nephew, Scott Thompson; many cousins and friends.
