Charles Clifton Hamilton, 88, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Mount Carmel East Medical Center in Columbus.

Born Feb. 20, 1925 in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Horatio Cleo Hamilton and the late Helen (McKnight) Hamilton, also of Wilmington.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and also retired after 35 years from Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton. He was a member of the Spirit of Truth Church in Washington Court House.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel (Whitelow) Hamilton of Wilmington; two sons, Donald (Sandra) Hamilton of Mt. Vernon, Michael Hamilton of Wilmington; one daughter, Angie Beth Hamilton of Reynoldsburg; two grandsons, Ryan (Kelly) Hamilton of Silver Spring, Md., and Austin Hamilton of Wooster; close family friend, Tony Stewart of Columbus; one brother, Cleo (Elsie) Hamilton of Cincinnati; two sisters, LeGene Cordell of Wilmington and Loretta Mills; multiple nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Jenny Hamilton; two sons, Charles Hamilton Jr., and Lewis Hamilton; brother, Norman Hamilton; sister, Vivian Hamilton; and brothers, Harold Hamilton, Lloyd Hamilton, and Walter Hamilton.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, in the chapel of the FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 Locust St., Wilmington. Pastor Don Young will officiate. Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at the Dayton VA Cemetery.
