MORTON - Louis G. "Louie" Belsley, 86, of Morton passed away at 9:41 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Morton to George Louis and Kathryn (Welk) Belsley. He married Vilas J. Birkey on Dec. 1, 1957, in Morton. She preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 2008.

He also was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Don Knobloch; one brother, Alvin; and two sisters, Ida Belsley and Wilma Sauder.

Surviving are three daughters, Jennifer Knobloch of Morton and Sallie (Todd) Hoerr of Peoria and Wendy (Matt) Kupferschmid of Morton; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Heather and Daniel (Kelly) Knobloch, Alyssa and Travis Hoerr, Aaron (Megan) Kupferschmid and Jessica (Scott) Smith; four great-grandchildren, Kuper and Kaylee Smith and Rosamund and Elowen Knobloch; and one sister, Verna Rother of Morton.

He served with the United States Air Force during World War II as an air traffic controller and was the recipient of a Sharpshooters award.

Louie co-owned and operated L&F Electric for 13 years, retiring in 1991. He previously worked for Foster Jacob as a journeyman electrician/foreman for many years. Following his retirement, he worked for Core Construction (formerly DBI) as a project coordinator.

He was a member of the Morton Apostolic Christian Church, where he had served as a trustee. He was a lifelong member of Kennel Lake Sportsman's Club in Morton and had also served on various boards throughout the area, including the WeCare Inc. board.

Louie was devoted to God, his family and friends and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Morton Apostolic Christian Church, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
