PENOBSCOT - Harvard Bridges, 78, died at his home in Penobscot, Feb. 10, 2004. He was born Nov. 24, 1925, the son of Fred P. and Annie (Herrick) Bridges. Harvard was a 1942 graduate of Clark High School in Penobscot. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific and European Theaters. Upon discharge from the service, Harvard helped set poles in the part of Penobscot that didn’t have electricity and also worked at the local brickyard. He worked at the Bucksport Mill for 38 years. Upon retirement, Harvard loved gardening, landscaping, fishing and hunting. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his daily walks. Harvard is survived by one son, Lennard Bridges and wife, Sally, of Penobscot; two daughters, Linette Grindal and husband, Bruce of Sedgwick and Lucie Tyler and husband, Keaveny of Blue Hill; 11 grandchildren; four great-grand-children; many nieces and nephews; one brother, Arnold Bridges of Cape Rosier; two sisters, Arlene Gross of Penobscot and Althea Hooper and husband, Arnold, of Penobscot. He was predeceased by Baby Bridges in 1965; his wife, Mary, in 1992; and one brother, Merton. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004 at Healey’s Funeral Home, South Street, Blue Hill, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, with the Rev. Ron Hutchins officiating. Interment will be at Edgewood Cemetery, Brooksville.
