Jefferson Drake "Jeff" Collings, 76, husband of Margaret Collings, passed away peacefully at his home in Accomac, VA, on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, after a twenty year battle with prostate cancer. He was a member of Onley United Methodist Church.

Jeff was born in Princeton, NJ, on March 10, 1937, to Jefferson Drake Collings and Helen Henderson Collings. He grew up in Princeton, and served two years in the United States Army in Germany, at the Berlin Wall.

Jeff was the owner/operator of Collings Machinery Service in Onley, VA, for twenty-five years. He was a lifelong mechanic. At age twelve, he took apart his grandfather's car, and at his father's insistence, put it back together. Later, he began building and racing his own cars.

Other interests were NASCAR, travel and genealogy. An ancestor, William Collings, a Revolutionary War soldier, walked back and forth across New Jersey three times, and had thirteen children. Jeff enjoyed touring the country to see places his ancestors lived, and even meeting some distant cousins. Most importantly, Jeff never met a stranger.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Laurie Heins of Lawrenceville, NJ; two sisters, Carol Clevenger and her husband George, of Skillman, NJ, and Joyce Laird of Richmond, VA; three nieces; one nephew; and several great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves many friends to cherish his memory.

The family is grateful to hospice, especially Dave and Shuwanda; his doctors, Tom Hollandsworth and Paul Schellhammer; and Barbara MacPhee for Jeff's at-home care.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 2:00 PM, with the Reverend Charles W. Parks III officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
