Ronald Lee Dickerson, 86 of Gaylord passed away January 29 at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village. He was born on December 1, 1927 in Potterville to Hiram and Rena (Fogleson) Dickerson. On May 16, 1948, he married Amy Lea who preceded him in death on October 20, 1999.

A longtime resident of Gaylord, Ron worked for many years as a mechanic and service manager for Don's Sport and Marine. "Ron's Breakfast" at Diana's Delights and Dickerson Road were both named after him. Many years ago, Ron owned a Texaco gas station where he serviced the seismograph trucks for oil and gas. He also worked as a meat cutter, at Standard Products and John Deere to name a few.

Ron was very active in the community where he worked with many organizations, a few of which include the Alzheimer's Association, Otsego County Commission on Aging, 4H Club leader and a member of the zoning board. He worked for the Otsego County Fire Department, where he served as fire Chief.

Ron enjoyed his time as a life member of the Northland Sportsmen's Club and he served as past president and an avid volunteer. In 1983, he was awarded the clubs highest honor, Sportsmen of the year. Ron was known for his hunting and outdoor sports activities. He had cabins in Canada and in the Big Creek area of Gaylord where he hunted and fished. He was an accomplished shooter and spent many hours on the range at the club. He was an endowment member of NRA. Ron was never without his sportsmen's club raffle tickets in his pocket, he could be heard saying, "You need one of these."

Ron proudly served our country as a member of the United States Navy where he was stationed in both Puerto Rico and the Panama Canal. To continue his service, he became an active member with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his children; Dennis (Fran) Dickerson of Gaylord, Shelly (Ted) Nichols of Tennessee, Ona (Dick) Dunbar of Elk Rapids, Linda (Lee) Curry of Gaylord, Iola (Scott) Radtke of Shepherd, Eric (Mary) Dickerson of Gaylord; 19 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
