U.S. Congressman. Born near Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, he attended Austinburg Academy Ohio, graduated from the medical department of the Western Reserve University Ohio, in 1856 and commenced the practice of medicine in Clintonville, Pennsylvania. He retired from the medical profession in 1861, to pursue in the production of oil and agricultural pursuits. During the Civil War, he served as a volunteer surgeon in the Union Army. In 1875, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress, serving until 1877. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 67 in Franklin, Pennsylvania.
