U.S. Congressman. Born in Logan, Ohio, he attended the Ohio Wesleyan University, moved to Pennsylvania and engaged in mercantile pursuits. There he established the town of Reno and The Reno Oil and Land Company. He also put forth the establishment of national banks in thirteen cities throughout East Pennsylvania. In 1865, he elected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth Congress, serving until 1867. While as a member of Congress he became bankrupt, was pursued by creditors and was imprisoned. After a prolonged trial, he was acquitted and resumed operations in the oil business at Franklin, Pennsylvania. He died at age 78 while on a business trip in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
