Detailed Obit: John R. "Jack" Ardelt, 82, passed away suddenly at home at All Saints Retirement Center on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005. He was born on Sept. 20, 1923, in Whitewater, the son of Richard and Anna (McCune) Ardelt. His training at Whitewater State Teachers College was interrupted during World War II to serve at Ft. Benning, GA, from March, 1943 to April, 1945, and then overseas in the Japanese Occupation Forces until August, 1946. 1st Lt. John Ardelt returned to Whitewater State Teachers College where he received his bachelor's degree in business education in January, 1949. He taught one semester at Prairie du Sac. He married Doris Capelle on May 14, 1949. They both taught in Potosi, during which time he earned his master's degree in administration at the University of Iowa and then both taught at Lancaster. In 1965 they moved to Madison where he taught at the former Madison Vocational, Technical and Adult School and then became area coordinator in charge of adult education in the Great Madison School District at Madison Area Technical College. Also affectionately known as "Jack", he was an avid sports fan, especially Packers and Badgers, and enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards. He coached while teaching at Potosi High School and announced the varsity football and basketball games at Lancaster High School, as well as refereeing the junior varsity basketball games there. He had a great sense of humor and loved sharing stories and jokes. John was deeply loved and will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris; daughters, Linda (Lynn) Martin of Sun Prairie and Suzanne Ardelt of Verona; sons, Michael (Georgia) Ardelt of San Diego, CA, and Mark (Carol) Ardelt of San Antonio, TX; a sister, Mary (Don) Eckert of Janesville; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Ardelt of Whitewater; 6 grandchildren: Brian Owens of Moody AFB, Valdosta, GA, Michelle and Elizabeth Ardelt of San Diego, CA, and Scott, Justin and Nicholas Ardelt in England; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Karen; and his brother, Donald Ardelt of Whitewater.
