Donald D. Helmeid, age 82, of Janesville, died on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center, Janesville. He was born in Monroe, on March 26, 1931, the son of Ancil and Genevieve (Phillips) Helmeid. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Don married Mary Margaret (Martin) Bruehlman in Monroe, on Aug. 25, 1978. He had been employed by General Motors and was a member of the First Baptist Church, UAW Local 95, and the Loyal Order of Moose. He enjoyed country western and Blue Grass music, gambling, and traveling. Don is survived by his wife; daughter; step children; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathi Federici; granddaughter, Stevie; brother, Wesley Helmeid; and sister, Joan Ellefson. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 3414 Woodhall Dr., Janesville, with Rev. Jerry Amstutz officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9 until 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Monroe.
