Strode Aubrey E. Strode, of Bedford, Virginia is the son of the late Judge Aubrey E. Strode of Amherst, Virginia and the late Rebekah Brown Strode of Arrington, Nelson Coun/y. He was born and grew up on a farm in Amherst County. He attended the public schools ! of Amherst, the Virginia EpiscoIpal School, and the Lynchburg H, h School, graduating from the latter in 1923. Immediately thereafter he entered the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York from which he gradua.ed with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1930. Aubrey Strode, upon graduation from West Point, was appointed Lieutenant in the Army and for a period of eight years served in the Regular Army Air Corps. Infantry and Quartermaster Corps at various Army Posts in the United States and Hawaii. He attended Army Schools for approximately one year in each branch. He was admitted to the bar in Georgia in 1935 and in Virginia in 1936. He attended the Univerisity of Maryland and Georgetown Law Schools. In 1938 he resigned I his commission in the Regular, Army and began private law practice with offices in Bedford, Virginia. He continued to practice law there until recalled to active duty as Captain, Infantry Reserve; in March 1941. Immediately after the outbreak of World War II Capfain Strode was ordered to Australia where he joined McArthur's forces and served for three years in various capacities in the campaign from Australia back to the Philippines; serving the last year on the staff of General Walter Krueger Commanding General of the Sixth Army, by whom he was awarded the bronze star medal for outstanding services In the .Pacific Campaign. He returned from the Philippines and when released from the Army with the rank of Colonel, after a short stay in Lynchburg, he resumed the practice of law in Bedford, Virginia. Aubrey Strode, age 44, is married and has three children, all boys. He lives with his wife and children in Bedford. He is a member of the Episcopal Church. Board Canady Post No. 54 of the American Legion, Virginia State Bar Association and the Bedford Bar Association of which he was formerly President.
