Mrs. Helen Lucille (Smith) Zimmerman, 97, a resident of Hearthstone Retirement Community and formerly of West King Street, both of Waynesboro, died Saturday morning, June 23, 2018, in the retirement home.

Born June 19, 1921 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Roger A. and Florence K. (Kepner) Smith.

Mrs. Zimmerman graduated from Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1940.

She and her husband, the late Paul C. Zimmerman, were married on April 21, 1941 in Hagerstown, MD. Following their marriage they lived in Washington, D.C. and then Colonial Beach, VA. Mr. Zimmerman died on August 5, 1979. Mrs. Zimmerman returned to Waynesboro in 1980.

Mrs. Zimmerman worked for the United States Government in the printing department and then for Hecht Company Department Store in Washington, D.C. After returning to Waynesboro, she worked at Frick Company in the Foundry office for five years.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro, Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15 Ladies Auxiliary, former B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731 Ladies Auxiliary, The National AARP, and South Chapter #2977 AARP.

She is survived by two sons, Paul D. Zimmerman of Calabash, NC and John A. Zimmerman of Elkridge, MD; 3 grandsons; 1 great-grandson; one sister, Bettie Helfrick of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, LaRue Kugler; and one brother, Marshall Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 30, 2018, in Quincy Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Quincy, PA, with Rev. Donald Stevenson officiating.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 West North Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
