He married the former Alice Westra on September 30, 1944. He retired from The Dow Chemical Company in 1974, where he worked for 39 years as a foreman in the tank car department.
Val served in the Army during World War II and he was a member of St. Brigid's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Joseph V. Cabala of Midland; two daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Shirley) Naples and Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Bartos, both of Midland. Two sisters, Genevieve Piotrowski and Cecelia Rytlewski; and nine grandchildren. A son, Duane, was killed in the Vietnam War in 1969.
Funeral services will be at St. Brigid's Catholic Church.
