Herbert graduated from Columbia Central High School, Class of 1960. He was employed at Tennessee Aluminum for eight years. He was a retired employee of Premier Manufacturing Company in Spring Hill, TN after fifteen years of service, until his health began to fail him.
He accepted Christ at an early age at Church of God of Louisville, KY. He served two years in the United States Army and then made his membership at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church under leadership of Pastor Percy Clark.
He leaves to his passing: a very loving and devoted wife: Lena M. Smith Frey; daughters: Carla Frey of Knoxville, TN; sons: Tyce (Princess) Frey of Franklin, TN, Curtis Frey and Tony Frey of Louisville, KY; five sisters: Henrietta P. Webb, Lillie Howard, Cheryl Gough, Sandra Frey, Christine Scott; three brothers: William H. (Vivian) Frey, Allen (Ann) Frey and Marvin Frey, all from Louisville, KY. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; mother-in-law: Mrs. Hazel T. Smith; six sister-in-laws; four brother-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
