Mr. Mailen was born Feb. 21, 1939, at Clay Center, to John and Blanch L. (Dowdy) Mailen.

He attended the Ellijay Church of Christ. He graduated from Clay Center High School and the University of Kansas as a football letterman. He received his masters from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. He retired as the vice president of purchasing for Miracle Recreation and was also employed at Daisey Air Rifles. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 15 years and in the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Judith (Judy) Mailen, of the home in Ellijay, Ga.; two daughters, Susan and husband Thomas Skidgel of Ellijay, Ga., Kristin Lee Mailen of Danberry, Conn.; and one son, Steven Bradley Mailen of Bentonville, Ark.

A funeral service will be held in the Logan Funeral Home and Chapel Outdoor Pavilion at 1 p.m. Thursday with Minister Butch Jones officiating, with military rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will be in the Ellijay Church of Christ Cemetery.
