Enlisted, May 1, 1898, in Company E, 1st US Volunteer Cavalry. He served in Cuba seeing combat at the battle of Las Guasimas, July 24, 1898, and San Juan Hill, July 1, 1898 and the siege of Santiago de Cuba. He was discharged September 30, 1898.

Enlisted, 1902, in Troop 1, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. March 3- 6, 1905, Squadron A was at the inauguration of President T. Roosevelt, Washington, DC. He served in Squadron A till discharged in 1908.

GOLD STAR FATHER, World War 2, his son 2nd Lieutenant, Edgar A Knap Jr., US Army Air Force, a member of the 384th Fighter Squadron, 364th Fighter Group, was killed in a air accident, February 1, 1945.
