He was born on February 7, 1937 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, the son of Colonel and Frances Brown Gunn.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1961. He had worked as an insurance adjuster and did catastrophic adjusting across the United States. He loved woodworking, and was known as "Jelly Man" among crafters. He helped with Mennonite Disaster Service, was a member of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church and the Oklahoma Band of the Cherokee Nation. He is remembered as a loving husband, dad and brother.
On November 10, 1973, he married Beth Wilcox at Amarillo, Texas. She survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Cindy (J. W.) Martin, Annette Bailey, Deb (Mark) Anell; brother, Randy (Donna) Gunn; sister, Kaye Hind; four grandchildren, Cody Herrin, Troy Herrin, Misti Marcantonio, Abby Anell; three step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Donna Jean Gunn.
Graveside service held at Inman North Cemetery, Inman, Kansas, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Memorials to the Mennonite Disaster Service in care of Buhler Mortuary, Buhler, Kansas.
