Son of Jason W. Fairfield and his wife, Hannah Dana Chandler. Migrated to California circa 1851 with his paternal uncle, George Fairfield. Moved to Humboldt Co. in 1856. Owned large ranch at Kneeland Prairie 1860. Became saloonkeeper in Eureka, including Fairfield & Barnum Bar & Billiard Rooms in 1870 and Fairfield & Monroe Liquor Store in 1871. Owner of South Park racetrack and saloon by 1880. No children. Burial record at Myrtle Grove Cemetery, no headstone. Modern headstone added by his brother David's descendants in 2005.
