Avelina R. Nelson passed away on February 25, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born on November 8, 1921, in Cushing, Oklahoma, the daughter of Maria and Angelo Moreno. Avelina spent her childhood in Joplin, Missouri, and graduated from Joplin High School. On August 16, 1945, she married John A. Nelson, who preceded her in death on November 2, 2004. Avelina and her family moved to Republic, Missouri, in 1954, and she resided there until her death. Her parents, four sisters, and two brothers also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Jim Nelson; Lamont Nelson and his wife, Virginia; and Greg Nelson; six grandchildren, Todd Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Rowdy Nelson, Kris Nelson, Myndi Dillard, and Shawn Purvis; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Keys; and Celia Lytle.
Inurnment in Evergreen Cemetery in Republic.
