DONALD AASEN

LONG BEACH — Donald "Don" L. Aasen, 72, died Feb. 13, 2014, in Long Beach. He was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Hallock, Minn., to Ruth Marie (Anderson) Aasen and Joseph Irvin Aasen.

After the family moved to the Pacific Northwest, Don grew up in Longview, graduated from RA Long High School in Longview and then from Western Washington University in Bellingham.

Don owned Aasen Manufacturing in Longview from 1967 until 1983 where he provided roofing trusses, doors and windows throughout southwest Washington. Later he realized his lifelong dream of being a charter boat captain, a crabber, and he fished in Alaska for many seasons. He was a WSU research technician until his retirement.

He moved to Long Beach in 1994, where he and Natalie Hanson enjoyed 11 wonderful years together. He was a lifetime member of the Long Beach Elks, a member of the Ocean Park Moose Lodge and a longtime active member of Ocean Park Lutheran Church. He volunteered for and participated in many community activities on the Peninsula. He was deeply loved and his many friends and family will miss him.

He was married to Judith (Mellein) Heinlen for 25 years.

Survivors include his sons, Joe and Jeff Aasen; stepsons, Jeff and Cliff Rudnick; his daughters, Janet Ringbom and Jen (Uwe) Nolden Duenhoelter; stepdaughters, Keri Ruddock and Leann Rund; his sisters, Virginia (Ron) Siltanen Janelle (Karl) Farstad and Charlotte (Joe) Paliani; his brothers, Jon Aasen and Gordon (Vi) Adelman; his grandchildren, Joey Aasen, Ashley Searing, Megan Aasen, Christian Aasen, Eleanor Aasen, Mallory Ringbom, Jake Ringbom, Mason Ringbom, Forrest Nolden, Robbie Nolden, Katie Nolden, Avery Nolden, Matthew Henson, Brandon Henson, Apryl Ross, Mitch Rudnick, Phil Rudnick, Cristian Rudnick, Travis Rudnick, Katie Rudnick, Andrew Ruddock, Jessica Ruddock, Teyl Rund and Tess Rund; and many great-grandchildren. A brother, David Aasen and stepdaughter, Terri McCown preceded him in death.

As per Don's wishes, his ashes will be spread in the Pacific Ocean and Willapa Bay this summer with a celebration of life to follow.
