Bonnie Lewis Garrett age 88, went home to her Lord on Thursday, May 2, 2013. She was born in Cherokee County, Centre, AL. Her parents were Mr. Norman Watson Adrian and Cora Carroll Adrian.
She was a longtime resident in Floyd County and a member of Beech Creek United Methodist Church and a former member of West Rome United Methodist Church. She was married on October 15, 1940 to Elbert W. Lewis and was married for forty-five years before his death. She and Elbert had three children, daughters, Carol Lewis Lambert Kight (Kenneth) and Betty Lewis Penney (Jerry W.) and one son, Doyal Thomas "Tommy" Lewis (Brenda) all of Rome. She married her second husband, Ernest Daniel Garrett in 1986 and was happily married for eight years before his death in 1994.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elbert W. Lewis and her second husband, Ernest Daniel Garrett; her son, Doyal Thomas Lewis and a sister, Inez Brock James all of Rome and two sisters, Tevis Adrian Guttledge of Illinois and Ruby Smith and brother, Alvie Adrian of Boaz, AL.
She was a homemaker and worked retail sales for a number of years on Broad Street. Mrs. Garrett loved to sew and cook. Also, she was an avid reader. She was the bookkeeper for her husband's business of contract residential construction.
Other than her children, she is survived by six grandchildren, Blake (Stacy) Lambert, Stacey Lambert (Matt) Vines, Leah Penney (Lee) Holder, Michael B. (Sara) Penney, Chad Lewis and Misty (James) Roberson. She had sixteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and two special caregivers, Sondra Mosely and Jamie Jones.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Miller & Richards Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Stephens and Rev. Randy Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until the funeral hour in the Oaknoll Chapel.
Pallbearers include her family, Blake, Doyal, and Matthew Lambert, Matt Vines, Kyle Davis, Lee Holder, and Michael Penney.
