Bennett Lewis, for many years a respected citizen of this village, died at his home on North street, Thursday, after a long illness, aged seventy nine years.
Mr. Lewis was born in the town of Brighton, June 8, 1827. He was married March 11, 1857, to Miss Annajanette Bullis of Unadilla, Mich., and the couple have lived in this place for the past thirty-two years. For some years they lived in the town of Greece.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis had been married fifty years, last Maroh, but on account of Mr. Lewis' illness, the occasion was not formally observed. Mr. Lewis had been in failing health for a number of years from a general breaking down of his vital forces, and had been confined to his bed for the past five months. During all this time he has been faithfully cared for by his loving wife, who although well advanced in years, has borne up with great fortitude during the mental and physical strain.
Deceased is survived by the widow and one son, Lester. Also two sisters, Mrs. A. P. Britton of Greece, and Miss Amanda Lewis of Henrietta.
The funeral was held from his late home, Saturday afternoon, with interment
in Mt. Hope, Rochester
