Later in life she volunteered at the Tourist Center, welcoming visitors to the Acadiana area.

Adams, nee Maude Alma "Ski" Johnson Adams, 89, who died at 4 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at her residence in Lafayette. Reverend Monsignor J. Douglas Courville, JCL, Rector of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will concelebrate. Serving as Deacon will be Deacon George Jourdan. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her two sons, Robert D. Adams and his wife Janet, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; James J. Adams and his fiancée, Toni White of Lafayette; her daughters Barbara E. Adams, of Ellicott City, Maryland and Mary Adams Laurent, also of Lafayette. Also surviving Mrs. Adams are her grandchildren: Ashlyn Adams Romaine and her husband Durel, of Abbeville; Michael T. Adams of Lafayette; Erin E Adams of Silva, North Carolina; John T. Olson and his wife Claire of New Orleans; James Anthony Adams and his wife Angelle of Lafayette; David "Alex" Laurent and Caroline "Callie" Laurent and their father, David A. Laurent of Lafayette; and step-granddaughter, Wendy Dees and Tim Monsees of Wellsville, Kansas, as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Another special member of the Adams family is Laura Mae Brooks Lawrence, who became a part of the family in 1962, as a caregiver for one of the Adams children. She has remained there since.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Robert J. Adams; her parents, Daniel Talmadge, Sr. and Sophie Dugas Johnson; one sister, Vaneta Ruth Johnson and one brother, D.T. Johnson all of Alexandria.
Recently, Mrs. Adams told her family that she would be glad to meet her beloved husband and her pet dog, Freckles, up above, and to please share that information with friends and loved ones.
Born on December 7, 1924, she attended and graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria. After graduation she attended SLI, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. On her seventeenth birthday, December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. In the spring of 1942, she met Robert J. Adams, who later became a U.S. Naval Pilot. Love blossomed and they were married in 1943. They had four children and raised their family in Lafayette.
A deep and abiding faith was woven throughout the threads of her life. Mrs. Adams was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and faithfully attended mass there on Saturday afternoons. She had and inspired a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, who she regularly prayed to, asking deliverance of her prayers and petitions to our Father in heaven.
Mrs. Adams was an elementary school teacher at Cathedral Carmel Elementary for 25 years. Ever dedicated to her students, she was tough, and demanded they excel in their studies. Many former students met her later in life and thanked her for her dedication and drive, which had helped them to lead successful lives.
A thirst for knowledge and travel was something shared by both Ski and Bob. Together, they traveled the world, documenting each trip on video, long before the ease of today's photographic equipment. They shared these "Super 8 movies" with family and friends to bring more of the world to those who watched them in the family room of their home. Later in life, Mrs. Adams volunteered at the Tourist Center, welcoming visitors to the Acadiana area because she wanted to welcome visitors to our unique and special part of the world.
Life-long friendships were begun as a member of Beta Sigma Phi, an international service and social sorority where she progressed through six degrees, reaching the highest, "master" degree.
Though many knew of Mrs. Adams as a reserved, strong-willed woman, many did not know of her deep generous spirit and nature. She and her beloved Bob, first together, then on her own, were incredibly generous, to their family and their beloved Sisters of Mount Carmel and De La Salle Christian Brothers, among others. Through quiet action, they built a legacy of generosity that touched the lives of many.
