Mrs Richard Overton, 75, a lifelong resident of Rock county and for many years active in the local Methodist church and various clubs and lodges, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday in a nursing home at 745 Yuba street. She had been in failing health for two years.
Mrs. Overton, formerly Henrietta Van Galder, was born Oct. 15, 1875, in the town of La Prairie, the daughter of Orsamus and Paulina Bates Van Galder. She attended Lawrence college and taught in the grade schools of Rock county until her marriage Nov. 11, 1896, to Richard K. Overton in La Prairie township.
They lived on the Van Galder homestead farm until moving to Janesville in 1923. Mr. Overton died in March, 1938.
Mrs. Overton was a member of the Cargill Methodist church and was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service until her health failed. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, chapter 69, the Eastern Star study class and Crystal camp No. 132 R.N.A. In 1935-36 she served as president of the Janesville Federations of Missions, an inter-church organization.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Orrin V. and E.J Overton, both of Janesville; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Aplin, Geneva, Switzerland, and Mrs. Charles Games, Mounds, W. Va., and seven grandchildren...
