Mary McDonough, 87, a longtime resident of Lock Haven, died peacefully on Oct. 28, 2012, at Lock Haven Hospital, in the company of her son and daughter-in-law Gerard and Jean McDonough.
Mrs. McDonough was born in Philadelphia, on April 25, 1925, daughter of the late Dr. Henry and Bessie Thissell.
She was the wife of the late Dr. Gerard F. McDonough for 34 years before he passed in 1983 and Jim Heffner, who passed in 1996.
Mrs. McDonough graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1944 and graduated from Germantown Hospital Nursing School in Philadelphia in 1946. She began her nursing career after moving back to Lock Haven where she met and worked for her late husband Dr. Gerard F. McDonough, whom she married in February 1949.
She was a longtime and active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her son and daughter in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved family gatherings, traveling with friends, playing bridge, and her ability to live an independent lifestyle.
She is survived by her son Gerard and daughter-in-law, Jeannie McDonough of Jamestown, Rhode Island; four grandchildren, Brett, Trevor, Molly and Kara and two great grandchildren, Breanna and Todd; step daughter, Lisa (Heffner) Jones and step grandchildren, Lauren and Andy Jones.
A Memorial mass will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at noon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lock Haven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Clinton County SPCA.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven.
