Son of Charles Monroe Johns and Rebecca Elizabeth Diffie. He had a twin brother, Willam Alvin Johns. William died at birth, July 4, 1883.

Henry Calvin Johns always used his initials, H. C. His wife called him by his middle name, Calvin. I never heard anyone call him Henry.

In the early 1920's he farmed near Bismarck, Arkansas but then migrated to Florida where he farmed. He moved his family into Winter Park, Florida where one son, Henry Calvin Johns Jr., suddenly took sick and died at the tender age of 1 1/2 years. Junior is buried in Palm Cemetery, Winter Park.

In the late 1920's he migrated back to Arkansas. In the 1930's he was a deputy sheriff around Point Cedar, Arkansas. He also share cropped in the same area. In the late 1930's he moved his family to Gilmer, Texas and eventually moved to Longview, Texas where he and his wife lived until his death in 1960. During that time he farmed, built and sold houses and worked as a School Crossing Guard.
