In 1940 she and her parents and five siblings lived in a house they were renting for ten dollars a month at 205 West Maple Street in Nashville, IL. Her father worked as a coal miner, with an income in 1939 of $350 for 30 weeks of work, and Wilbur as a janitor for the NYA in a public school, with an income in 1939 of $45 for four weeks of work.

Lillian E. Porter nee: Cruse, of Glen Ellyn since 1955 passed away on February 26, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Don for 63 years; loving mother of Elizabeth, Andrew (Beth) & Kathy (Jeffrey) Lundgren; dear grandmother of Ethan, Emily, J.D. & Abigail; fond sister of William, Robert and Paul Cruse, late George, late Wilbur & the late Ann; aunt of several nieces and nephews. Lillian graduated from U of I in 1948 and earned her Master's degree in library service from Rosary College. She worked as an assistant librarian for over 20 years in Glenbard school district 87. Visitation will be Thursday March 6th from 3 PM till time of service at 7 PM at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn. Interment will be private at Woodlawn – Lincoln Cemetery in Urbana, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to charity of your choice appreciated. For information call 630-469-0032.
