Jean was born Jan.27, 1938 in Lucasville, a daughter of the late Thomas and Lona Jenkins Pitts.
She was retired from the former Portsmouth Receiving Hospital where she worked in the housekeeping department.
Jean was preceded in death Aug.1, 1992 by her husband James Lafayette Payton, whom she married in Indiana on Jan. 28, 1956.
Jean was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jeff Warner; two brothers, Robert and Everett Pitts and four sisters, Doris Pitts, Louise Cole, Marjorie Osborn and Irene McGue
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 P.M. at the Candy Run Cemetery with Rev. Randall Phipps officiating.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all the caregivers at Heartland for the love and care given to Jean during her stay.
