Aleta G. Berry, of the Buxton Road, passed away on Nov. 9, 2008, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Portland, on June 30, 1945, the daughter of Albert and Effie (Huff) Cooley. After attending business school she became a keypunch operator for companies such as Union Mutual, which became UNUM, and Data Center. Aleta enjoyed sewing, working out at the gym, gourmet cooking for family functions and outings, snowmobiling, camping, motorcycling and was successful at deer hunting years ago. However, Aleta's true passion in life was dancing - especially belly and Hawaiian dancing. She was a founder of the Sha-Ha-Ree Harem Dancers who performed at many venues. Not only did she enjoy dancing, she enjoyed teaching also. She taught belly dancing at York County Community College, many adult education classes, and private classes at her studio. She is predeceased by her parents; and a daughter Marcie, who passed away in 1986. She is survived by her beloved husband, Herman Berry; sons, Scott Berry and his wife Charity of Saco and Jason Berry of Saco and his fiancé Robin; siblings, Al Cooley, Kenneth Cooley, Donna Nadeau and Jeannie Di Ciccio all of Limington, and Sherry Cooley of North Carolina; grandchildren, Jacob, Lacey, Andrew and Alex and two expected grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corners of Rts. 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd.) in Buxton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Sargent officiating. www.dcpate.com. Burial will follow at South Buxton Cemetery.
