He was married to Betty Lou Wright (1939– ).
James enlisted in the US Army on July 6, 1955 and was discharged on July 7, 1957.
Living on Blue Grass Drive in Hendersonville, Tennessee, he was 41 years old when he died on February 23, 1975 at Park View Hospital in Nashville.
Survivors included his widow, three sons and a daughter, all in Hendersonville, his parents at Goodlettsville, Tennessee and his brother Richard Wayne Jones of Huntsville, Alabama.
Funeral Services were held on February 24th at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, and burial was in Woodlawn East Memorial Park, also known as Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
