She was an active member of Cook Co, and made many contributions to the community. The Adel News Tribune's front page tribute and obituary stated '...her dream was to bring entertainers and performances to Adel and Cook County for those who otherwise wouldn't see them...many of her contributions and accomplishments were obtained through her determination and not to take No for an answer...'
1960's Cook County Ordinary for the unexpired term of her father
1978-1990 Cook County's school and community coordinator which partnered local business with Cook County Schools. Many local citizens learned of "NO" was not an answer.
Established the Cook County Educational Fund [Scholarships program]
1981-82 Citizen of the Year [Cook County]
1993 Co-founder of the Cook County Council for the Arts
1993-2007 President of the Cook County Council for the Arts which established a summer arts camp for children under her leadership.
1995 Woman of the Year
2009 The Carolyn Harris Performing Arts Center,located at Cook High School, was named in her honor.

She is survived by two daughters; two grandchildren; and two great-grand-children.
