Dorothy B. Abernatha, 88, of 102 Susquehanna Ave., Lock Haven, passed peacefully March 4, 2014, at the Susque-View Home in Lock Haven, where she had been a resident the past few years.
Dorothy was born March 8, 1925, in Lock Haven, to the late E. Roy and Amy Nestlerode Baker.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth "Kenny" Abernatha who preceded her in death June 4, 1970.
After graduating from Lock Haven High School in 1942, Dorothy went to work at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven, where she also took flying lessons. She then went to work at Mill Hall Clay Products in Mill Hall.
An avid businesswoman, she and her husband purchased the Mill Hall Brick Works, which they ran together, with Dorothy spending much of her time on the road in sales. After Kenny died, Dorothy continued to run the company on her own for many years.
Dorothy was involved in her church and the community. She had been an active member of the First Church of Christ in Lock Haven and had served as chairman on the Church's Board of Trustees.
She was also active with the Friends of the Ross Library, Lock Haven Hospital Auxiliary and the Williamsport Bridge Club.
Dorothy loved spending time with her daughter, Karin and her husband, John Archer, in Denton, Texas.
She was a proud, loving grandmother to granddaughter Lauren Pegram and grandson Matthew Archer.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; her long-time companion, her dog Fannie; and she had many close friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lyman Baker and a sister, Shirley Herring.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 11, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Lock Haven First Church of Christ 330 N. Vesper St., Lock Haven, with Pastor Steve Salmon officiating. Family and friends will be received in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven, Monday evening March 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Mt. Bethel Cemetery, Mill Hall.
