E. Berniece Pabst Mitchell Esche, age 98, of Ocean Springs, MS., passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011, in Ocean Springs.

She was born January 8, 1913, in Ocean Springs and graduated from the high school on Government Street. In the 1930's she went to work for what is now the Farmers Home Administration. She married her first husband, Preston A. Mitchell, on August 2, 1958, in Little Rock, AK. They returned to live in Ocean Springs until Mr. Mitchell's death in 1970. After retiring in 1973, Mrs. Mitchell-Esche traveled extensively. On October 9, 1982, she married William Esche of Milwaukee, WI; the couple also lived in Ocean Springs until Mr. Esche's death in 2000. Mrs. Mitchell-Esche continued to live at the Pabst family home on Halstead Rd. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ocean Springs, Past President of the Biloxi Chapter of AARP, and Past President of the Gulfport Chapter of The American Legion Auxiliary. She was a long time Treasurer for the Ocean Springs Garden Club. She began volunteering with the Ocean Springs Hospital Auxiliary in 1977 and logged over 7000 hours serving in the hospital gift shop.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law Verne and Bonnie Pabst of Rincon, GA. two nephews, George Pabst and his wife, Barbara of Guyton, GA, Karl Pabst and his wife Angela, of Altoona, PA. two great-nieces, Elizabeth and Carolyn Pabst of Guyton, GA and a great-nephew, Geoffrey Pabst of Guyton, GA.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 14, 2011, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., with a 3 p.m. Memorial Service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, Ocean Springs or Odyssey Hospice, Gulfport.
