From the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Monday, October 30, 1972, page 3:
  Edward Knecht, 76, 1204 Harrison St., was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:30 a.m. today in St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland.
  Police and firemen responded to a call from LeClaire School at 8:28 a.m. and went to Mr. Knecht's residence, where they found him in his front yard.
  He was the apparent victim of a heart attack, police said.
  Officers said that Mr. Knecht was given heart massage and oxygen in an unsuccessful attempt to revive him.

  Funeral services for Edward Knecht, 76, of 1204 Harrison St., who died Monday, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Eden United Church of Christ, Edwardsville.
  Mr. Knecht was a retired farmer.
  He was a member of Eden United Church of Christ, a World War I Veteran, and a member of American Legion Post 199 of Edwardsville, Madison County Farm Bureau and the World War I Barracks.
  He was born March 25, 1896, in Pin Oak Township. His parents were the late Philip and Esther Gusewelle Knecht.
  He was married to Julia Bode on Feb. 3, 1919, in Pin Oak Township. She survives.
  Also surviving are a son, Kenneth Knecht of Edwardsville, daughters Mrs. George (Gertrude) Schuett, Trenton, Mrs. Edyth Senn, Edwardsville, and Mrs. Dean (Lucille) Tracy, Edwardsville; a brother, Henry Knecht, Portland, Ore., a sister, Mrs. Minnie Krejci, Edwardsville; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
  Four brothers preceded him in death.
  Friends may call after 4 p.m. today till 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pletcher Funeral Home, and after noon till the time of service at the church.
  Veterans group will meet at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
  Rev. Paul Rahmeier will officiate at the funeral service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.

Pallbearers were Darrel Ziegler, Robert Senn, Gary Knecht, Craig Knecht, Mark Schuette and Ronald Tracy.
