Dema Johnson, 88, of Connersville passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Caroleton Manor in Connersville, IN. Born in Beattyville, Kentucky on June 2, 1923, she is the daughter of the late Raleigh and Della Bowman Toler.
On November 27, 1943 in Beattyville, KY she became the bride of Edgar Johnson. Mr. Johnson died on November 30, 1997. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her flower and vegetable gardens as well as cooking for her family. She also enjoyed going to First Southern Baptist Church of Falmouth where she was a member.
Dema is survived by five sons, Lawrence (Rita) Johnson of Connersville, Freddie (Debbie) Johnson of Cleveland, TN, Richard Johnson, Johnny (Becky) Johnson and Ray Johnson all of Connersville; three sisters, Martha Steele, Betty Payton, and Helen (Lawrence) Fox all of Connersville; four brothers, Henry (Tippy) Toler of Richmond, Adrian (Marilyn) Toler , Clyde (Catherine) Toler and Carlos (Elaine) Toler all of Falmouth; four grandchildren, Michelle Moran, Shawna Johnson, Brittany Johnson and Dylan Johnson; six great-grandchildren, Taryn Dolphin, Noah Selby, Kaitlyn Moran, Jessica Moran, Johnny Moran, and Manny Moran; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son Larry Johnson; brothers, George Toler, and Joseph Toler; and a granddaughter, Christal Johnson.
Funeral services were held at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W 8th Street, Connersville, IN, on Wednesday July 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bill Flanigan, Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Dale Cemetery.
