Clarence LeRoy Wilcox, 89, passed away on March 8th, 2014 in Rexburg, of natural causes.
He was born September 29, 1924 in Sunnydell, Idaho to David Floyd and Annie Grizelda Heileson Wilcox.
He attended school at Sunnydell, Archer, Madison High, LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, and Ricks College. He was drafted into the army in World War II and served in Germany. After the war, along with his dad and brothers, they built a potato warehouse in Thornton called Floyd Wilcox & Sons, Inc. He remained in the potato business for 43 years.
He married Lorna Rae Keele on August 9th, 1949 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They farmed in Archer and St. Anthony before buying a farm in the Thornton area.
He lost his right arm in a farming accident in 1955, but he never let it slow him down. Because of his incredible patience he learned to do anything he desired. His hobbies included fishing, water skiing, gardening, and golfing. He was able to provide a comfortable living for his family. He taught his children the virtues of hard work, honesty, and dependability.
He was a faithful member of the LDS church. He served in various callings in the church, usually as a clerk in his ward or on the Ricks College campus. He and Lorna served a mission to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1995 to 1996.
After retirement, they traveled to many places either by themselves or with friends. They enjoyed spending the winter in St. George, Utah for 19 years where they had many special friends. When Roy's health began to fail in 2012, they moved into The Homestead Assisted Living Center. Even through his illness he was always kind, gentle, and appreciative of the help he was given.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna of Rexburg, three children, Linda Brown of Pocatello, Richard Wilcox, and Garth Wilcox, both of Rexburg, 14 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death, by his parents, Floyd and Zelda Wilcox, 3 brothers, Keith, David, and Boyd, 2 sisters, Doris and Jackie, and one grandson, Bradley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 13th at the Burton LDS church at 3958 W. 2000 S with Bishop Ken McClusky officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday March 12th, at Flamm Funeral home in Rexburg and from 10:00 to 10:45 am Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the Burton Cemetery.
