Veronica M. Beck, 108, Marshfield, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 am until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Veronica was born to Anton and Barbara (Schreiner) Ashbeck on February 2, 1906 on a farm in the village of Auburndale where she attended St. Mary's parochial grade school and high school through the 10th grade. She was married to Raymond A. Beck on October 24, 1933 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Auburndale. He died on August 17, 1947. Veronica was employed as a housemother at St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing for many years, retiring at the age of 80. Nursing students dedicated their yearbook to her at the end of her career. Veronica was committed to her faith, family and home. She remained vibrant and invested in life and living until the final days of her life. She was a member of the parish of St. John's Catholic Church for more than 70 years. She was also a member of St. John's Parish Council of Catholic Women. She is survived by her 5 daughters, JoAnne (Frank) Nikolay, Jr. of Auburndale, Patricia Ottelien of Marshfield, Sr. Judith Marie S.S.M. of Oshkosh, Lois (Marc Jones) Beck of Madison, and LeaRae (Dennis) Galarowicz of Madison. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister, Theresa Zellner of Stratford. She was preceded in death by her husband, 7 brothers, 1 sister and a son-in-law, Clarence Ottelien. Memorials may be designated in her name to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Ministry St. Joseph's Palliative Care. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Miller Alternative Care for their kindness and devotion to Veronica.
