Death of William K. Wallis
Saturday evening at 5 o'clock death removed from this county one of its best citizens. At that time William K. Wallis died at his home near Westport. Deceased was a native of England and at the time of his demise had reached the age of 77 years, 11 months and 18 days. With his parents he came to America in 1835, making their home at Mineral Point, Wisconsin. In 1851 he journeyed to California, stopping two years in Sonora then moving to Stanislaus county and engaging in cattle raising. With the exception of two years spent at his old home in Wisconsin he resided continuously at his ranch on the San Joaquin river, living an honorable, honest life that gained for him the friendship and esteem of everyone with whom he came in contact. It is with a feeling of regret that his many friends learn of his passing away.
The Funeral will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Westport Church. The interment will be in the Masonic cemetery, Modesto.
There survive him a wife, one daughter and one son, Mrs. Stephen Vivian and William C. Wallis, and a sister, Mrs. J.H. Carpenter, of Westport, one brother, T.K. Wallis, of near Crow's Landing, and a sister in Wisconsin.
