S/Sgt Tremlett was the tail gunner for the B-24 crew flying plane # 42-95027. On their 13th mission June 23, 1944, flying Lead Plane ( With extra men in the crew),"the aircraft took a direct hit by flak in #3 engine and bomb bay, at the target. The plane immediately went into a dive, then pulled up slightly, rolled over and went out of control. They were shot down over enemy occupied, Laon, France. (5) chutes seen." According to crew mates, W Gunner, Altemus and W Gunner Lampe; We got him out of his turet and he said he would follow us, he was in the waist just behind the escape hatch. He was not injured but he might of suffered from lack of oxygen. He was found in his tail gun position in the crash. He was buried with crew members Ammon, and Birnbaum in the Campigneul-Chalnos Sur Marne Cemetetry in France. They were later moved at their parents request to Woodlawn.
