Services for Willie Lee Banister, 89, former mayor of Marks (MS) and founder and first President of the Riverside Bank of Marks, were held Monday Morning at McInnis-Porter Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery at Memphis.

Mr. Banister, a native of Vance, South Carolina, came to the Delta in 1914. He was a Planter in Quitman County and an Elder and charter member of the Marks Presbyterian Church.

For the last 23 years, Mr. Banister lived in Clarksdale in the home of his step son, the late J T Barbarian and Mrs. Barbarin.

He died in the Clarksdale hospital where he had been a patient for sometime.

Besides Mrs. Barbarin, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Dick Barham of Marks.
